Support Worker

Main Purpose of the Job

To provide a range of services to the patient who require support and assistance with their health needs.

This usually involves providing a supportive and reassuring manner, varying levels of personal care and clinical observations within acute and community based settings

Main Duties
Provide support and assistance with:

? Dressing, undressing/preparing the service user for their day.
? Washing/bathing/showering/shaving/grooming/cleaning teeth
? Hair care (washing/brushing)
? Nail care(washing/brushing)
? Continence care and all aspects of personal hygiene
? Care of pressure sores (under appropriate nursing supervision and training)
? Getting in and out of bed
? Use of hoist and moving equipment as appropriate to the service user.
? Assist in the care of the dying and bereaved, ensuring privacy and dignity are maintained at all times
? Report on wellbeing of the patient to the nurse in charge
? Update and communicate with the nurse in charge of duties completed
? Assisting with feeding as required
? Promote privacy, dignity and respect
? Excellent communication links between patient and other professionals
? Maintain a professional manner

Other Duties

? Complete baseline observations, Blood Pressure, Body temperature, Pulse, Oxygen saturation level, Blood monitoring each with appropriate training

? Practice maximum integrity

? Report any faulty appliances, damaged equipment or potential hazard
? Ability to maintain accurate records
? Other duties as may be reasonably agreed
? Attend regular appraisal/monitoring/supervision meetings with their line manager when required to do so.
? Attend refresher training and occupational training sessions as appropriate.
