Child Care Officer - Brighton

£20,000 - £25,000 a year

A stone's throw from the beach, situated in the heart of Brighton the school has educated and cared for deaf children for over 70 years.

Class sizes are small, usually 4 - 8 learners and we teach using British Sign Language as well as written and spoken English.

Specialist staff ensure the additional support around a learner enables them to access learning in a sustainable manner, ensuring high levels of engagement with learning and progress through learning.

Providing support to local parents of deaf children to learn British Sign Language at the school via free classes.

Staff teams include deaf teachers, deaf teaching assistants and deaf care staff who provide positive role models for everyone in our community.

The Role

As part of the childcare team, to ensure high standards of care and safety and to actively promote the development of pupils within the school.

The post holder's responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible, or with whom they come into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy at all times.



Responsibilities include:

? to comply with the duty rota
? to maintain the necessary records using the school's on line systems
? to ensure the right channels of communication are used to convey information within school
? to maintain appropriately professional contact with parents
? to liaise with external agencies on matters relating to children's health and welfare
? to undertake sleep-in duties as required and agreed separately
? to deal with emergencies in accordance with the appropriate guidelines


Experience/ Qualifications

NVQ or L3 Health and Social Care Children and Young People

Education to a sufficient standard to support pupils' after school learning.
