An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Communications Engineer within our clients IT Data Networks team.

The team is responsible for the design, provision, monitoring and support of LAN/WAN services throughout the company, as well as Communication Rooms, Structured Cabling and Network Security devices.

You will report to the Voice and Data Team Manager and, along with the other Senior Communications Engineers in the team, provide a support and implementation role as well as taking on project management responsibilities.

The role is mobile and will require travel to sites throughout the company, therefore a driving licence is essential.

A company car will be provided.

In addition you may be required to participate in a Standby rota to provide out-of-hours support.

Main responsibilities

Provide 1st & 2nd line technical support for the Data Networks infrastructure and systems

Implement additions and changes to the Communications Services infrastructure and systems

Liaise with other IR teams to provide and troubleshoot IT services

Liaise with external telcos (e.g.

BT) for the provision of WAN services

Supervise contractors working for WPD on behalf of Information Resources

Undertake other duties and project management tasks appropriate to the grade

IT Communications Services consists of both the Data Networks team and the Voice Networks team.

The teams work closely together and you will provide assistance for Voice Networks services when required

Ideal candidate

You should be a good team player and a great communicator who is able to make decisions using your own initiative, to solve a range of technical challenges.

You must be educated to at least BTEC certificate or equivalent NVQ level 4/5, with 2 years suitable networking communications experience preferable.
