Magnet Technician / Coil Winder

Coil Winder / Magnet Technician: £25,000+

An innovator of Magnetics technology seeks a Coil Winder / Magnet Technician, ideally experienced with Superconductor Magnets.

The company works with high science research organisations across the globe producing world-leading research instrumentation, with the majority of their work of bespoke design to meet unique applications, so your coil winding and magnetic building work will have interest and variety.

Ideally experienced with Superconducting or Shim Magnet systems your Coil Winding experience will include any of:

• Following layout design and Engineering Drawings to customer requirements;


• Preparing formers prior to


• Working with high value superconducting wires,


• Winding magnet coils to specifications


• Operating manual winding machines


• Saddle winding


• Using lamination stacks,


• Stack building,


• Jointing, etching, soldering and insulating wires.


• Cold welding of superconducting joints


• Coil preparation.


• Compliance to precise standards for layers and turns to achieve a balanced coil


• Undertake stage checks and record keeping.


• Coil insertion,


• Coil varnish & impregnation,


• Magnet pre-termination assembly.

Advantageous is experience with Magnet building and test, inclusive of Wire soldering and termination to build different types of circuits, Wire preparation, lead running and shunting, assembly of magnet diagnostic boards, and soldered sub-assemblies/ PCBs through to magnet switch manufacture and testing prior to housing completion.

As will be quality control, including undertaking accurate measurements using multimeters,

Ideally 2+ years experience as a Magnet Technician.

Although certified qualifications are NOT required for this role a track record of achieving an NVQ in electronics, orientated to manufacturing/test, and/or completing a time served apprenticeship/training as an electronics based manufacturing technician, would reflect a long term interest in undertaking such a role and reflect well in any application.
