About the job


We're looking for a Travel Choices Specialist to work closely with the region's residents, businesses and visitors to organise and deliver information-sharing opportunities such as business forums, events and workshops that promote and raise awareness of travel demand management and wider congestion management schemes.


The West Midlands is dealing with the major health and economic impacts of Covid-19 and has quickly developed a strong approach for recovery.

This role will contribute to the Covid-19 transport recovery and help deliver our strategic priorities within the plan to get workers and businesses back up and running, supporting travel to schools and keeping children and families safe, help reduce carbon emissions and support a green economic recovery.


What will you be doing?


, Create and enable suitable travel demand management strategies that will influence the travel choices of residents, visitors and businesses in the region
, Coordinate with internal and external agencies to pool resources and effectively promote and develop resilience measures that keep the people of the West Midlands moving
, Facilitate the availability of travel choices offers and incentives and engage businesses and staff and students in educational establishments towards their uptake to embed behavioural change at scale
, Manage and develop web-based tools for businesses, educational establishments and community organisations to enable them to plan ahead and keep moving
, Represent TfWM and the Network Resilience Directorate at relevant industry conferences and networking events (Modeshift, Smarter Travel, Act TravelWise, TDM Collaboration, for example)


About you


Working in a fast-paced delivery focused environment, you must be able to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders to drive behaviour change to ensure people can make informed decisions about their journeys during times of disruption.

We're looking for someone with the following:


, Knowledge of travel demand management and/or sustainable travel issues
, Experience of leading and designing successful travel plans and/or logistics within or for other public, private or voluntary sector organisations
, Understanding of behavioural change tools and techniques and demonstrable experience of applying them with
, Possession of, or working towards a transport planning, business management, education, environmental or marketing/PR qualification would be an advantage


You will draw on your proven track record of influencing change in organisations in a travel planning, demand management or similar context to deliver benefits for customers.


About the team


With so much investment being put into the West Midlands transport system, and with projects being delivered across the region from key partners such as High Speed Two, Highways England, local authorities, Network Rail and Transport for West Midlands, keeping residents and businesses moving has never been more important.

Our Network Resilience Directorate is a team of various transport specialisms, working together with internal and external partners to help keep the West Midlands moving, by improving efficiency of the existing network and managing demand to reduce congestion.


With large events such as the Coventry City of Culture 2021 and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games about to put the West Midlands on the international stage and set to bring millions of extra visitors in to the region, the team is involved in supporting the planning of these events with the aim of providing a seamless travel experience on our integrated transport system.
